Brooklyn, NY, Nov 6, 2018 – Galatea Inspired Design, the Brooklyn, NY-based boutique home décor design studio, will make its debut at the 32nd annual SURTEX art & brand licensing trade show in February 2019, showcasing a mix of classic and contemporary styles for wallpaper, fabrics, textiles, and tabletop intended for the home decor market.
SURTEX’s Winter marketplace and trade show is expected to attract over 6,000 attendees from 49 countries and will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Feb. 3-6, 2019. The three-day February event will be co-located with NY Now, the market for home, lifestyle, and gift.
By including Galatea Inspired Design in its major retail kickoff event for 2019, SURTEX is ensuring that buyers from major stores and design firms will experience Galatea’s grand, bold home décor and lifestyle products, which feature modern art references, odd subjects treated classically, and some “usual subjects treated unusually.”
Visitors to Booth #518 will find the artist amongst monumental abstract compositions, art deco cicadas, and big blowsy poppies.
Galatea was founded in 2017 by Cat Weaver, a local artisan and craftsperson who has provided designs for major retail chains as well as small businesses and individual buyers.
Ms. Weaver lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, but spent her childhood upstate. Perhaps this is why her art tends to shift from sly modern and contemporary art references to highly stylized depictions of natural subjects.
Calling herself an artrepreneur, Ms. Weaver has functioned as a curator, art journalist, and graphic artist. She has curated art shows in all kinds of venues, ranging from local arts institutions to restaurants and even an NYU professor's home and NYC-based co-working spaces. Her art criticism has appeared in Hyperallergic magazine and her analysis of the contemporary art market has been featured regularly in the NY Observer. The brands Cat Weaver has designed for Baby Phat and Rocawear, and created graphics for Gap and Tampax, and a variety of products ranging from soup cans to makeup compacts.
"Galatea was born for designers who long to create surprises," says Ms. Weaver. “At a time when consumers and brands wish to embrace mid-20th century aesthetics and 21st century notions of sophistication, Galatea exists to provide unique substance and style without compromising quality, originality, and a sense of timeless joy that the best designs have always represented.”
